Welcome to Global Derby Society!
We are a large group of pinewood derby enthusiasts from all over the United States. Some of us only race on the local level in Den, Pack, District and Council level. Others of us have children who have out grown the local scene and now race at the professional league level know as proxy racing.
The professional level racers are the ones who push the envelop and are constantly thinking outside the box. Paint brushes and spray cans are ancient tools to these boys! Instead, they are the ones with air compressors, air brushes, primers, custom paints and clear coat finishes which resemble glass. While the paint is curing, these guys are off on their lathes with custom machined jigs set up so they can create top of the line wheels and axles. If top notch car designs, paint and custom wheels isn’t enough, we get into the lubrication of the wheels and axles. The professional racer has all but perfected both dry and oil based lubrications, when used at the Scout level it is just a nightmare for all other cars on the track.
Here at Global Derby Society, we do not care how fast you can go, how well you can paint. We do not care which league you are affiliated with, or whose derby products you think is better. Pinewood derby has greatly evolved over the past eight years due to the professional league racer. Company’s have stepped up to provide all racers, both league and local level, with better tools and racing equipment. No one company can claim responsibility for this progression. Each has taken time to assess other company’s products, listened to feedback from racers and then tweaked their products accordingly.
We ask you enjoy your time here with us! If there is anything we can do to help please feel free to jump in and ask question or offer help. We ask you put your topics in the appropriate sections of the forum and not “hijack” someone’s post by starting your own topic with in it. We offer free linking to your websites if interested. Please just contact the administrator.
What happens on the track is only part of the story
Thank you very much,
Global Derby Society
