I am guessing two divisions, one for scouts and one for non-scouts. Same rules for both... That makes sense. I believe last year everybody was in one division and I know that Exorcist3D did well and won alot of hardware. I am guessing that the change is to try and separate out the young from the old and get some more trophies in the scouts hands. I know last year it was a first class event and I am sure this year it will be the same. I am sure Greg will correct me if I am wrong about the divisions.

This year the "Pro-Division" was created for a several reasons... #1 to allow those that wish to enter the "Highest-Level" of competition and #2 to attract Proxy Racers - promoted on a National Level to us Pinewood Enthusiasts - and any "Locals" that wish to step up to this level of competition. Additionally #3 it allows multiple Car Entries - where as the other 3 divisions. Scouts Division - Non-Scout Kids Division (under the age of 18) - Adult Division only will allow 1 car per entrant. In the Spirit of keeping the event centered around Scouts, Siblings, and Parents/Leaders - it allows those that really are "serious" about their pinewood racing to compete not having to run in preliminary heats with the - Non-Scout Kids & Adults. Last year we ran a Scouts preliminary set of heats and an Open set of preliminary heats (Mixed with Adults and Kids) - this year we will run 4 sets of preliminary heats - Scouts - Kids - Adults - Pro - More awards more happy kids seeing their cars "win" and it should create an even better event. For our Inaugural Year things went amazingly well and this year it will even be better... in fact Exorcist 3D is on our committee this year and we have already started planning and I encourage those of you that are interested to take a look at the site - www.midamericaderby.com - we have even had registrations for the event already - you can register at www.mac-bsa.org/cs_details.aspx?ID=1932I hope many of you enter and race in our event we provided such a large amount of prizes and awards thanks to some amazing sponsors like Darryl Huntley at Derby Dominator - and a whole list of wonderful supporters. It will be a fun day of racing truly Greg D. Attachments:

Is the Adult Division going to run graphite and the Pro Division run oil? That would provide a real separation between the two divisions. Both divisions running graphite wouldn't prove a lot. The Pro Division is just that and should be allowed to use oil.

Here's the news everyone has been waiting for! And we've made it very simple:
The rules for the Mid-America Pro Class = Stock Division !!!
Why did we choose the Stock Rules? Here’s the rationale that went into this decision: • The Pro Class needed to allow more modifications than the Scout/Adult rules do • Encourage league racer participation by making our Pro rules standard with the league rules so no one has to build a unique car just for the Mid-America race. • Pick a class/division of league rules that are as equal as possible to all leagues
The Stock rules from all league's were a perfect fit! As you’ve probably already read in previous posts above, on Thursday just last week was the first planning committee meeting and we got unanimous approval from the committee to proceed with our plan for the Pro Division! OK, now that I’ve explained that much, perhaps you want to know what is my involvement with the race? After the race last year Greg (Xanthrum) asked me if I would participate on the planning committee and specifically if I would help promote a new Pro Division. The Pro class would focus on getting more involved with the leagues and hopefully get more participation from the league racers. Besides taking the race to the next level, it’s a win-win relationship for everyone: The kids (and parents) get to watch the fastest cars in the world and not only that, they can build for the race and challenge the pros head to head! It’s a real world Pro’s Vs Joe’s competition. I expect the kids (and parents) to be inspired and wowed by the league cars. I’m getting fired up just thinking about it. There are more advantages of course, but if that isn’t enough to motivate you let me know and I’ll post more!
OK, there is going to be a lot of info posted this next week! First let me say the rules are not posted to the Mid-Am website yet. However this post is enough to get you building. I have combined all the leagues’ rules into one version, but if you build to any of the league rules (Stock Division, Street Pro, Stock, etc…) your car will be legal. Lastly, I’ll say that everything you expect from the league races will be duplicated and done professionally at the Mid-America Pinewood Derby race: The race will be broadcast live on the web (I already tested livestream from the event location), photos, professional handling of cars, staging… Stay Tuned all the details are coming fast! And if you have any questions, post them here, PM me, or email me!

Can a builder send a car in not to race, but to put up in the "Best In Show" portion of the event? Sure. We'll handle it just like any other car, but we won't put the number in the race software, so it will never get called upon to race. One important thing to know about the Best in Show award(s) is that the kids are the judges. Even for the Pro Class! Each scout is given a voting ticket (1 per category) when they check-in their car. The $5 entry fee will still apply. I don't have anyway around that, but that fee goes to BSA, so it's a good cause and also it would be worth it for the SWAG. All rules will still apply also. (Size, wheel type, etc...), (basically, it has to be built to all the same parameter's and limits as all other cars). On the registration form when you send your car in, just put something to the effect of: "For show only, do not race" I can't wait to see it, sounds like it must be really awesome! -Jason
