Although I have not been racing lately, I have been hard at work on a new fleet for the second half of the PWDR. I have a HR66, Mod, Pro-Mod, Stocker and Featherweight done and I am working on a Super Stocker. Stupid Limited class is the thorn in my side.... I have placed that class on the back burner... A few of my new cars are on my site here: 5kidsracing.webs.com/

Great idea Mood! It will give all racers a way to see what's going on and where in any given month... it will be especially helpful for new racers.

I installed the remote start last night, it took me maybe 15 minutes and works excellent. Man does that make a difference with consistent starts. I ran my super pro mod four times with three identical times and one was .001 slower.

I purchased "The Judge" solenoid start system today.
A few things to note... the BTG-1 is the old model and has a smaller solenoid than the the new GLB model. The new system will have a price of $119 plus shipping.
Since the website still is advertising the BTG-1, I received the GLB model at the $99 price... yeah! I also received a fully modified BestTrack Hand lever for free!
I don't know what, if any, discounts they will offer league racers in the future, but John Shreffler was very helpful and knowledgeable about his products.

Does anybody have one of these? I need a solenoid start and I should just build one but I feel lazy and I have too many cars to build.... $170 ESS or $120 Judge? 5kids - If you ever decide to build one I have schematics and parts list. Instead of the solenoid I recommend a door lock actuator which you can buy for $5.50. I have made two solenoid start gates; one with a solenoid and one with the actuator. The actuator has more power and a longer travel making it much simpler to align - and the price is much better. I saw all of your posts and schematics on the solenoid start 5 J's... you have amazing skills:) It looks very electrical.. not my strong point. I am willing to pay for something quick and easy and focus on building cars. I must be a pinewood nerd because I can remember like 90% of the posts on every board but I forget to take out the trash every Friday.

I would get the solenoid start unit for $99 and then activate it with the hand held switch for an additional $19...
So that's why I said $120 (plus shipping) for the Judge and that compares to $170 (plus shipping) for the ESS... at least that was my take on the comparison.
I just have no idea if one is way better than the other... does the ESS just have a nicer package, an "ON" light and "start" button on the unit?
I wouldn't use the start button on the unit and I don't care what it looks like because I can't even see it. My start lever is against the wall... I would always use the remote hand held switch....

If for some reason you wanted to "be like MOOD" would you use Polyjuice Potion or Pepperup Potion?

My name is Scott and I am a Pinewood Addict…
If you chose to do so you can read about my pinewood addiction by clicking the “5KidsRacing” link at the bottom of the page. Other than the pinewood stuff I am a I am a Project Manager at one of the only companies in the USA that still manufactures high tonnage hydraulic presses. I started as a Hydraulic Engineer then Mechanical Engineer and then to the position of Project Manager. I have designed presses up to 8000 tons (16,000,000 lbs.) and have die spaces that would hold a small house. Our presses manufacture things that you probably use or see every day; Boeing inside panels and frame components, Kohler tubs and sinks, Therma-Tru/Masonite doors, hundreds of automotive parts, Nichiha cement board siding and Allvac Titanium manufacturing equipment to name few of my recent projects. After finishing college the job market sucked so I renovated Ponderosa restaurants all over the Midwest for a year. I enjoy carpentry and renovations but I don’t think my body or marriage could take it as a career. As my name suggest I have five kids, 11,9,7,3 & almost 2, so I am pretty busy all the time. The only time I work on derby stuff is from maybe 10pm until I pass out. I live on the Iowa/Illinois border so some of my Summer free time is on the Mississippi River. I enjoy boating, water skiing, kneeboarding, riding waverunners, and camping. Over the past year I have had the opportunity to communicate with many great people in the pinewood derby community and I look forward to meeting more. Due to my website this year I have had the pleasure of helping no less than 30 racers all over the USA and Canada to victory! When I look back I can’t believe how I got from a guy a couple years ago trying to help his Son build a car to just cross the finish line and not embarrass him to where I am now. I have worked very hard to get where I am at and I have a long, long way to go...........
