I have been around the pinewood world of "Proxy Racing" since 2004 and I have seen changes in speed, style and craftsmanship in this time. From a speed stand point, the cars in all divisions and all leagues have made significant time drops. With the advent of oil based lubrication, polishing and prepping techniques we are now seeing cars run amazing times, while the finishing time difference between 1st and 20th place in a race being mere .001 of a second and in some cases .0001. The style of the majority of cars are now streamlined winged designed cars, with most now running fenders. In 2004 when "proxy racing" kicked off, it is my opinion there was far more craftsmanship put into building cars. Most cars I see now a days are clones of each other, with differing paint schemes. I will say the quality of paint has grown immensely. Most cars now are airbrushed with primers, paints and high gloss clear coats. These cars have a show room finish to them.
So what are some of the criteria that make a Global Craftsman.
The Global Craftsman's car's: are unique in that no two cars look the same. They might sacrifice some speed in order to set their car's style apart from the others.
or
The Global Craftsman's cars: set a standard for all cars after to be duplicated in design, paint and modifications.
or
The Global Craftsman's cars: use unique products which then become industry standards for all to use.
or
The Global Craftsman's cars: can be viewed years after it was made and still create "wow, that is cool" thought, when seen.
or some combination, there in.
I have been creating this list, gathering photographs and information about these Global Craftsmans car's, and I will be posting threads for each of them. Each will have a small write up explaining why they were "chosen". There will also be photographs of some of their work.
Please feel free to leave them comments in their threads as well as start threads of your own. I have a list set up so far, but this does not mean I have not left someone out. From this point forward input and discussion as to who and why could take place in those threads.
Perhaps the builders of today will learn/see where all this pinewood fever has developed from. I think it is important we recognize the history of this hobby.
Thank you and enjoy!
Request: Please do not start any threads about who to add until I can get my base work finished first. I have a bunch of work to do where this is concerned. From photo editing, to builder write ups, to posting this list on the main page of the forum.
