Rough cut with a bandsaw, then rough sand with 1" upright belt sanders. That gets me close to final shape. The rest is done by hand.

I hope to be at a point someday that I can get my focus of speed and put a bit more time into crafting the bodies. In my effort to find speed I know much of my prep is way overkill.

Carolina Gravity,
Is Cedar Waxwing constructed with aromatic cedar? Nice fender and body shape. Does the wood have a clear coat finish?

The wood came from the NC mountains, it does have a nice aromatic smell to it. As for the finish, I just rubbed in 4 coats of light tung oil.

Carolina - gorgeous work! did you use straight tung oil at the wheel bore/body contact point or did you prep that area differently? Looks like you used washers; I can't use washers in my race I had some cedar shakes sitting around that were a little over a quarter inch thick so I got to thinking....
