Wil and I had the last race for his car this year. It was at the church and even thaw it was fun it was not a scout race. Not a bad track but fist time we ran on wood and sure not a Best Track. There was not any timing system and the stop was a board you hit one lane did not matter who ran it the car wiggled all the way. He no longer has any paint of the front of his car. He ran about 20 times before the race and dropped it once but no big deal as he and I had much fun. I never did get to see the kit the others where running till the race. They where run very thin wheels. Wheel thickness touching the track makes a BID difference. He finish 4th which was not too bad with all of the hitting of the stop board and dropping it. LOL Time to get ready to start on the one for next year. Papa is going to make one or two for himself.

Was told that the church race is Wednesday now. I am guessing it will be a very small event.
Here is a video of my grandsons first win this year when he won the pack race.

When I 10 years old for Christmas I received a live toy steam engine and work shop. At one time I had around 200 steam engines from the late 1800 to present with about 175 of the toys they drove. Do to my situation I had to sell many of them. Here are some videos hope you enjoy them.
If there is enough interest I will post more if you would like.
I forget how to post the video with out having to go to the link but well worth watching.
My favorite brand is Jensen made in USA since 1930 and still in business.
Empire made in USA around 1940

Some where upset how well we did being our first year. Even Wil’s den mother said he had to do more work on it next year. Good thing she did tell me that or I would have said the den mother needs to get the kits to the children a lot sooner and not wait till a week before the race. By the time I got a few supplies we need we only had 3 days to do the build. Wil did quite a bit of work on it. NO I am not going to let him cut it out on the band saw or use a router at just under 7 years old. He did work the drill press while I held it and I made sure he had safety glasses on. He did more on it as well.
If they are up set this year wait till next year as I am going to do all I can to get under 3 seconds which no one has done on the track we ran on. Wil’s best time was 3.14 which I do not like where the COG it ended up at about 1 inch I wanted ¾ but did not have time to make it work. All so not having supplies I did not even polish the wheel hub bores.
Nest year I am going to epoxy up the first ½ of the axle slots and drill for the axles. The rear will be drilled on 3 degrees and one of the fronts a little high so we are running only on 3 wheels. We are going for a rail runner. If it all works out Wil will walk away with 2 trophies but 3 and maybe all out fastest.
Most of the other scouts where up running around during the race and I was so surprised Wil keep his eyes on the track. He asked me how some can win a heat but get eliminated? That’s when I told him to look at the projection of the computer screen and told him how to read it and what meant what.
Just in case you are wondering his motor spells his name with only one L.

Does spending the money you had for the gas bill on pinewood derby stuff make you an addict?

My favorite comes from Thomas Jefferson at the signing of the Deceleration of Independence.

Scouts round two this weekend. I know the competition is going to be much greater and win or lose I am happy with what we have done being our first build. But I do think we will be competitive. Found out last night from my daughter the church is going to hold a race so we at least have two more races this year. I would be happy if there was at least one race a month the whole year!!!!!!!
