With regards to recent events, both personal and internet related, I have come to do a lot of thinking lately. I wanted to take a minute or two of your time to hash out my thoughts.
I will be referencing this thread quite a bit, so I figured I would make it easy to find. Welcome To Global Derby Society
I have this amazing idea in the BIG BIG BIG picture of BSA and almost everyday, in some way, I get 1 step closer to this goal. Please do realize it is roughly 98,451,202 to reach this goal! LOL One of the major steps of my goal is the creation on Global Derby Society you all check in with. As per the "Welcome" thread, I am trying to create a central resource of pinewood derby information. This can come in the form of vendors, suppliers, builders, league races, local races, national races all the way down to local BSA organizations we help to promote. I got into this hobby so deeply because of someone more important to me then my own breath. "More, more, more" he would say. Which means every member that joins, every league we can support, every vendor we can support gives me the ability to take one more step forwards.
This internet life gets us all hooked in. As technology grows we buy cell phones, smart phones, ipads, tablets and as they start off as having something cool and new, we start to need them more and more. I have found myself making excuse why we need more data, when at one time I shunned using my phone for anything other then actually talking! Life is getting a whole lot faster and fairly soon local BSA will have to adapt to the times and technology. They have already in the form of moving from wooden to aluminum tracks, from a simple 1st 2nd 3rd to a digital read out to the thousandths. With this change local BSA will be forced to be tolerant to the internet world of pinewood derby and all it's resources. This is where Global Derby Society fits in. We quietly gather various resources from across the internet, then establish relationship with these entities. We have 110 members right now which means there is 110+ relationship being established from Florida to California, Ohio down through the Carolinas! AMAZING!! Yes, this is my forum technically, however I actually see it as your forum. You show up to lend a helping hand, to race cars and mostly to share in the passion of the hobby. So as the times change and the influx of resources are needed, I want to share with you and others reputable resources. This means establishing positive relationships with builders, vendors and venues where I would want my own children to go to for helpful information. Which is the outlook of Global Derby Society.
At this point in the lecture, I should get more to the point of all my thoughts I have had lately.
Thank you! Thank you to each of you who took the time to join, to post photographs of your cool cars, to making help videos. To those who just read the posts, to those who log in to wish someone a Happy Birthday. Thank you goes out to those of you who helped me with projects (even if your rates on parts and labor were too high) LOL, and those of you who call to talk with me. Thank you for sure goes out to Carolina Gravity Sports!! The amount of time it takes him to go through ALL the leagues and venue race results and then transcribe them into a point system to support Global Derby Society. Thanks to the old boys I have know for years and years now whose support is always unwavering. Thanks to all the newer members whom I have not gotten to know so well but took the time to join in this parade!! I am unsure if I have made myself clear throughout this long post, but if I haven't, thank you for reading this long.
If you are going to respond please take into consideration who will read this thread and how the mind can translate information. In other words, please watch your P's and Q's and just about every other letter in the alphabet!
;D
