I couldn't decide where this thread should go, so I put it here. If I chose wrong feel free to move it to wherever it should go. Anyway... I scored some GWS micro-light rc airplane wheels and tried them out on a modified I built for a local race. They are 25mm and weigh .5g each. I also got some 38mm that weigh in at 1.1g each which I haven't used yet. Cutter mentioned he and Dapine like to use these for their raised wheel and I was wondering what the rationale was. Why just as a raised wheel? Why not a guide pin or another wheel like the other 3 you're running? Does anyone use these wheels on all 4 corners? (other than me) I have only found these two sizes on the small end, they go up to like 4" or something. Anyway, just trying to learn...

Hey Steve, First , I don't have to raise my axle hole. Second, The light weight larger wheel covers more ground faster. In the HR66 race you have to run 4 wheels. So now I only have 3 wheels on the ground.

Interesting. I had no clue what those were. I always figured it was just for adding some flare

I'm calling it Barney...cuz it's a stupid purple dinosaur. Ever have a build where nothing goes right? I finally got my new wheels I was waiting for and they were junk. Totally unusable. I designed these three spoke super-light wheels on Google Sketchup and had a guy 3D print them. (I don't have a lathe so I can't make my own) I don't know if it is the process itself or just this guys execution of it, but they were really low quality. They did however only weigh .3 grams each. So now I have to use my 1" GWS wheels... Meet Barney, notice it's basically a clone of the red one at the top of the page.

Steve, Have you tested the car. Do you get any speed out of those wheels?

Since I have no track to test on, all I can do is check it on a tuning board (the full length mirror from the bathroom) and try to make sure the wheels aren't dragging. I've sent Barney in for the pddr super mod race this Saturday so I guess I'll find out. I stuck with the GWS 1" wheels since the 3d printed ones didn't have a decent bore.

Barney didn't do so well... finished last every race Ran each race slower than the last actually, not sure what that is all about. I got my 3d printed wheels re-printed, but can't find the proper size drill bit to chase the hubs. Spent $12 on two 1.2mm (.048")drill bits from Grainger just to have them turn out to be .046". So once again I am stuck going with GWS wheels for the upcoming PWDR race... Meet Grimace... (trying to use up my purple paint) remember Grimace???
